Team -
Henry Delacave, Alex Hammant, Emily Field-Lucas, Natasha Wahedna, Abi Buckle, Stuart Hanmer and an assortment of mixed hockey medics (as the rest of us were too hungover from the ball the night before), supported by Fenella Podd.
Report -
On an icy cold day following the winter ball a hung-over team of medics assembled (almost) to take on the university mixed hockey team. With some confusion over numbers and harsh conditions the teams eventually agreed for some non-medics to join our team, as many medics made promises to show but weren’t able (Luke Ironside, Rehana Dyson, Alex Shields to name the committee). A Brief look at the pitch revealed that an entire section of the pitch was frozen over but the brave teams decided to play on and just avoid that section of the pitch.
Once the match was underway it was a hard fought battle (I imagine) but the medics’ defence held strong and by half time we were 3-0 up thanks to a few great runs from the unstoppable force that is Alex Hammant. Spirits were high by half time but there was still an inspirational speech from captain Delacave, his first in his new role, in an attempt to keep the ball rolling and the goals coming. The second half was awash with goals with Emily and Henry scoring a goal and Alex scoring another 2. Alex nearly scored 3 but one of his shots had so much power he split a ball in 2, and while part went in the goal the other section missed and since it was the smaller section in the goal apparently the goal didn’t count. Unfortunately the defence couldn’t hold in the second half and the mixed hockey scored 3 goals bringing the final total to 7-3 and the first of hopefully many victories for the 2015 committee.
DOD went to Luke Ironside for the unjustified reason of not showing up despite there being 11 other players down to show up who didn’t. Emily Field-Lucas won (wo)man of the match for sheer awesomeness and skills.
